The Latest: Trump ceasefire plan falters as Israel says Iran launched more missiles

AP News President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he believed that both Israel and Iran violated ceasefire terms with attacks that followed an early Tuesday deadline to cease hostilities.

Israel accused Iran of launching missiles into its airspace after the ceasefire was supposed to take effect. Iran’s state media said its military denied firing on Israel.

Trump said Iran “violated it but Israel violated it too. I’m not happy with Israel.”

Israel and Iran had accepted a ceasefire plan proposed by President Trump to end their 12-day war that had roiled the...

The fighting between Iran and Israel raises questions about Russia's influence in the Middle East

AP News When the United States joined Israel this weekend in attacking Iran’s nuclear sites, the outrage and condemnation flowed from Russia. Moscow’s U.N. ambassador said Washington was opening “a Pandora’s Box,” and Tehran’s top diplomat rushed to the Kremlin to seek support from President Vladimir Putin.

But in his meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Monday, Putin offered only more words of condemnation of the strikes as “unprovoked aggression” with “no basis or justification.”

Analysts say that muted response without any apparent...

AP News WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said Israel was going to “turn around” its jets and stop attacking Iran and their ceasefire was “in effect” on Tuesday after briefly faltering.

Earlier, in comments to reporters at the White House before departing for the NATO summit at The Hague, Trump had...

Japan conducts first missile test on its own territory as part of military buildup to deter China

AP News TOKYO (AP) — Japan’s army announced Tuesday that it conducted a missile test for the first time on Japanese territory, as the country accelerates its military buildup to deter increasingly assertive China.

The test-firing of the Type 88 surface-to-ship, short-range missile was conducted Tuesday at the Shizunai Anti-Air Firing Range on Japan’s northernmost main island of Hokkaido.

About 300 soldiers participated in Tuesday’s exercise by the Ground Self-Defense Force’s 1st Artillery Brigade, using a training missile targeting an unmanned boat about 40 kilometers...
