NEW YORK (AP) — New York City Mayor Eric Adams said his meeting with President-elect Donald Trump on Friday included discussions of bringing manufacturing jobs back to the city and the Gaza ceasefire deal — but not the mayor’s federal bribery case.In a statement released Friday evening following the visit in Florida earlier in the day, the Democratic mayor said he and Trump “had a productive conversation about New York’s needs and what’s best for our city, and how the federal government can play a more helpful role in improving the lives of New Yorkers.”
Smoke from fire at California lithium battery plant raises concerns about air quality
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A fire at the world’s largest battery storage plant in Northern California smoldered Friday after sending plumes of toxic smoke into the atmosphere, leading to the evacuation of up to 1,500 people. The blaze also shook up the young battery storage industry.The fire at the Vistra Energy lithium battery plant in Moss Landing generated huge flames and significant amounts of smoke Thursday but had diminished significantly by Friday, Fire Chief Joel Mendoza of the North County Fire Protection District of Monterey County said. Homes were burning and roads already jammed when Pacific Palisades evacuation order came, AP finds

Former Oakland mayor, longtime partner indicted in alleged bribery scheme
OAKLAND (AP) — Former Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao, her longtime partner and two local businessmen were named in an indictment unsealed Friday alleging the four conspired to funnel city business to companies owned by the men in exchange for money and benefits to Thao and her partner.Thao, Andre Jones and business owners Andy and David Duong were indicted on charges of bribery, conspiracy and mail and wire fraud. Andy Duong also was charged with one count of lying to federal agents. All four made an initial appearance Friday.
