Amazon cloud outage takes down many online services around the world

AP News LONDON (AP) — A problem with Amazon’s cloud computing service disrupted internet use around the world Monday, taking down a broad range of online services, including social media, gaming, food delivery, streaming and financial platforms.

The disruption and the ensuing exasperation it caused served as the latest reminder that 21st century society is increasingly dependent on just a handful of companies for much of its internet technology, which seems to work reliably until it suddenly breaks down.

North Carolina GOP advances congressional map to secure another House seat for Trump

AP News RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina's legislature formally began redrawing the state's congressional district map Monday, plainly stating their intent to help Republicans gain another U.S. House seat under President Donald Trump's push to retain his party's grip on Congress next year.

The state Senate gave initial approval along party lines to enact new boundaries for two eastern North Carolina districts in a move aimed to thwart the reelection of Democratic Rep. Don Davis, one of the state's three Black members of Congress. That followed a committee meeting in which dozens of...

The CDC typically sends scores of researchers and outbreak investigators. But of...

Keon King, 21, of Dover, Delaware, has been arrested and charged with kidnapping, stalking and other charges in Scott’s disappearance. Bail was set at $2.5 million. Prosecutors say more charges are in the works. A...

The Latest: Trump signs $8.5 billion rare earths deal with Australian prime minister

AP News President Donald Trump and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese signed a critical minerals deal Monday at the White House, making good on U.S. interest in Australia’s rich rare-earth resources as a potential counterpoint to China’s new minerals export restrictions.

The two leaders described the agreement as an $8.5 billion deal between the allies. Trump said it had been negotiated over several months.

It follows Beijing’s new requirement for foreign companies to get approval from the Chinese government to export magnets containing even trace amounts of rare...
